Privacy policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
BroSplit helps you split bills with friends. This policy explains what we collect, why we need it, and the choices you have, in plain language.
The short version
- We collect only what splitting needs: your phone number, your name, and the groups and expenses you add.
- Your contacts are read only if you allow it, and only to help you find and add friends.
- We do not sell your personal data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- BroSplit is free. Later on we plan to show one small ad in the app, and we will update this policy before we do.
- You can delete your account and your data at any time.
What we collect
Your phone number. We use it to create your account, sign you in, and let friends who already have your number add you to a group.
Your name. Friends see it next to the expenses you add and the balances you share, so everyone knows who paid.
Groups and expenses. The groups you create or join, and the expenses in them: amounts, descriptions, dates, who paid and how each one is split. We also keep a record when someone settles up.
Contacts, only if you allow it. If you give BroSplit access to your contacts, we use the phone numbers in them to show which friends are on BroSplit and to help you add them to groups. You can use BroSplit without granting access, and you can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings.
Basic technical information. Such as your app version, device model and crash reports, so we can keep the app working and fix problems.
Payments
When you settle up with UPI, the payment happens in your UPI app, such as GPay, PhonePe or Paytm. BroSplit never sees your UPI PIN, bank account details or card numbers, and it does not hold or move money.
How we use your information
- To run BroSplit: keep your groups, expenses and balances in sync for everyone in them.
- To keep your account secure and prevent misuse.
- To fix bugs and improve the app.
- To send you messages about the service, such as sign-in codes or important changes. We will not send you marketing without asking.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Who can see your information
People in your groups. Members of a group see its expenses, its balances, and the names of the people in it. Only add people you are happy to share that group with.
Companies that help us run BroSplit. Such as our hosting provider, the service that delivers sign-in codes, and crash reporting. They process data only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us.
When the law requires it. We may share information if we must by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
Ads
BroSplit is free, and we want to keep it that way. Later on we plan to show one small ad in a corner of the app. It will never appear between screens or block what you are doing.
Before any ads appear, we will update this policy to name the ad provider and explain what information it receives, and we will ask for your permission wherever iOS requires it. We will not share your expenses, your groups or your contacts with advertisers.
How we protect your data
Your data is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers, and access to it is limited to the people who need it to run BroSplit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep part of it for longer.
Expenses you added to a shared group are part of the other members’ records too. After you leave, they may still see those expenses, with your name removed.
Your choices and rights
You can see and edit your name and your groups in the app, and delete your account from the app’s settings at any time. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also ask us to access, correct or erase your personal data, withdraw consent you have given, and raise a grievance.
To do any of this, write to support@brosplit.app.
Children
BroSplit is not meant for children under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal data without a parent’s consent, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
